A very rugged, rustic exterior reminds me of cowboy leather, and fully protects from scratches. I like the addition of the closing strap which ensures that the case doesn’t open while in a purse or luggage, however it does take away from the aesthetic a bit. I’m also finding that it distracts me during reading, so I have been reversing it to the back while in use. All of the ports and buttons are accessible, and the travel pocket will hold airline tickets nicely.
I found the new corner straps to be very secure once properly in place, but quite a hassle to initially position properly; in order to minimize (eliminate!) any keyboard obstruction, the designers went pretty tight on the tolerances, and on my device a strap or two is always right on the edge (see the photo I’ve uploaded). Out of the box (GREAT packaging, BTW) the leather is a bit stiff, and resists lying completely flat or folding back fully, but given some time, it will ‘learn’ these positions as you break it in. As Octovo advises, the leather absorbs impact scuffs and weathering with charming distinction, and you shouldn’t be surprised if your heavy use changes it’s appearance daily. I found for example, that on folding the spine back to it’s full open position, it lightened in color as it creased. I love the ‘old world’ way the cover looks when paired with my decal/skin which you can find here.
